MEET THE DOCTORS
Dr. Bill Gierie
Dr. Bill Gierie is passionate about orthodontics.
He believes his life was changed forever when he received the gift of straight teeth. Fascinated by the process and the amazing results, he was drawn to the profession. "I don’t feel like I’ve worked a day in my adult life because I love what I do," says Dr. Gierie.
His love of orthodontics has led him to share his knowledge with others. As part of the Invisalign® Speakers Bureau, Dr. Gierie is a sought-after speaker and lectures internationally, teaching other orthodontists how to use the Invisalign system and sharing his latest innovations. As an associate adjunct professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina he shares his passion with young orthodontists in training.
Dr. Gierie is a past member of Align Technology’s North American Ortho Advisory Board (Ortho NAAB) and the Invisalign Global Scientific Advisory Board and was one of only 7 members in the world to serve on this board, whose mission is to provide feedback on product direction and development.
Dr. Gierie is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, the North Carolina Dental Society and the Wilmington Tri-County Dental Society (where he served as a past president). When not practicing orthodontics or lecturing, Dr. Gierie enjoys reading, computers, chess, cooking, boating, paddleboarding, cycling, running and being outdoors whenever possible.
Dr. Gierie has a daughter and two sons.
Dr. Steven Hancock
Dr. Steven Hancock is a native of Davidson, NC. He attended East Carolina University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. While working in quality control, Dr. Hancock managed a team that assessed and optimized pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Dr. Hancock later discovered his passion for dentistry. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina, where he graduated in the top of his class with the highest distinction for service to his community. He was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Dental honors society and earned fellowships and awards for professionalism and ethics. Dr. Hancock remained at UNC to continue his specialty education in orthodontics.
Dr. Hancock has moved to Wilmington with his wife Katie, their 16-month-old son Bennett, and their adorable golden retriever Wheeler. When not in the office, Dr. Hancock can be found on the golf course, enjoying time with his family, and cheering on his favorite sports teams (ECU and UNC).
